International Joint Laboratory of Advanced Nanomaterials of Heilongjiang Province relies on Harbin Engineering University, collaborates with top research institutions of Russia, domestic universities, and key enterprises of Heilongjiang Province. Based on the cutting-edge technology in the field of advanced materials and national strategic needs, the Joint Laboratory adheres to innovation-driven development, and conducts interdisciplinary and disruptive basic research on advanced materials, innovative application research, and talent cultivation.
The Joint Laboratory, through international cooperation, introduces world-class experts, focuses on original leading scientific and technological research. It is committed to cutting-edge research on advanced nanomaterials, intelligent materials, and metamaterials, as well as innovative application research in extreme environments (polar, deep-sea, irradiation), biomedical engineering, and new energy fields. Several technologies have reached international advanced levels, and three research directions have been set up: (1) Advanced materials manufacturing technology; (2) Advanced medical materials and high-end medical devices; (3) New intelligent composite materials for shipbuilding, oceanographical and nuclear applications.
The Joint Laboratory maintains good cooperative relationship with St. Petersburg State University, The National University of Science and Technology, Institute of Strength and Materials Physics of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Ufa State Aviation Technical University, The Pennsylvania State University, University of British Columbia, Potosino Institute of Science and Technology, University of Western Australia. There are currently 22 permanent personnel and 10 mobile personnel, including academicians of the European Academy of Sciences, fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering, academician of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, candidates for the National High Level Talent Program, and foreign academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
Based on the new material industry, the Joint Laboratory has actively promoted the transformation of achievements, and has initially formed an international platform for the integration of industry and education integrating projects, talents, and bases. It will play a supporting role for the construction of the “double first-class” disciplines of Harbin Engineering University, the strategic development of Heilongjiang Province, and the construction of national strategic scientific and technological forces, and plays a leading and exemplary role in expanding scientific and technological cooperation with countries along Belt and Road Routes.
